This tutorial will show you how to connect to [-MAV-] irc channel. This task is a little more involved than most, but hopefully this tutorial will help you gain access to our chat room.
There are 4 main steps needed to gain access to the Maverick Gaming IRC room:
- Sign up for a gamesurge account at http://www.gamesurge.net.
- Download and install mIRC.
- Download and install No Name Script [optional].
- Configure mIRC to automatically authenticate you and join Maverick's IRC channel.
Signing up for a GameSurge Account
Signing up for a gamesurge account will allow you to authenticate when you connect to the gamesurge network. Authentication will allow you to obtain access to different channels and many other advantages. To signup for a gamesurge account, go to
http://gamesurge.net/createaccount/. Fill out the form and follow any additional instructions they send you via e-mail. There may be steps in those instructions that have to be delayed until you have installed mIRC.
Download and Install mIRC
mIRC is the most commonly used IRC client used today. It is free to use, although it may bug you to donate. I believe you have to wait 30 seconds to start mIRC after the first 30 days of use, if you do not donate. Donation to mIRC is solely up to you, but I would recommend it if you do not want to wait 30 seconds everytime you start mIRC.
There are many different versions of mIRC that can be found on the internet. If you will
not be using nonamescript, you can download the latest version from
http://www.mirc.com/get.html. If you would like to use nonamescript, please download version 6.34 from
http://www.nnscript.com/download.php?id=31.
After downloading the mIRC installer, run the installation program with whatever settings you would like.
If you will be installing no name script, do not open mIRC after the installation, please go to the next step first. If you will not be using no name script, you can skip ahead to the configure mIRC section.
Download and Install No Name Script
No Name Script is an addon to mIRC. It will add modules to mIRC that will allow you to do more and will make mIRC much more visually pleasing. You can download the script from
http://www.nnscript.com/download.php?id=30. When the download finishes, run the installer. The installer should detect your installation of mIRC and install in the same directory.
Configure mIRC with your Game Surge Account and to Auto-join #mavgaming
For these configuration instructions, I will be using the NoNameScript. For mIRC users, these steps may vary a little, but should be very similar.
- Open NoNameScript or mIRC.
- A welcome prompt will display and ask you to configure the script. You may choose to configure these settings yourself, but for simplicity, we will be skipping this step and moving forward. Close this prompt.
- Click on the mIRC options menu.
- Fill out the Full Name, E-mail Address, and Nickname textboxes on the first page of the options Menu. when finished, expand the Connect category on the left hand side of the options menu.
- Select the GameSurge -> Random server in the IRC Servers menu. The click on the Options category.
- Make sure the 'Connect on startup', 'Reconnect on disconnection', 'Move to the top of list on connect', and 'Check for timed out connect' check boxes are are selected. Uncheck the remaining boxes. Make sure the default port reads '6667' and then press the Perform button.
- A new window should open labled Perform. Check the 'Enable perform on connect' and select 'All Networks' for the Network. In the perform commands, add the following lines:

Where the stuff in <> should contain your username and password that you registered above through gamesurge.
- Press OK on both windows open.
- Then press the connect button next to the mIRC options button discussed above, and you should now be in #mavgaming (our irc chat room!)
